Spoiler for Wilhelm Grimm's Magical Girls 26 - Candy Candy: Midway to Success:
I think the Japanese fanbase said that Yayoi's hairstyle in her yukata made her look like a dog. On that note, has Hisako Kanemoto gotten a role in Dog Days yet? Obviously, the Nissan combo has kissed and made up after last week, since they arrived together. This is extremely minimal evidence, but then, so is 8:40. I'll take what I can get.
Having been in the anime fandom for years, everyone knows the beats of the festival episode pretty well by now. Precure does not disappoint. I do like how the show is keeping several of its background elements threaded through the episodes, with Natto Gyoza candy making another appearance (Majorina wins a trip to Guam!). Reika has Io-level skill at most festival games, it seems. Looks like there are multiple kinds of candy at festivals, besides cotton candy (and this time, it's not attacking people), and the candy carving game in Acchi Kocchi, there's also what could be described as lollipop art.
...so why did I focus on where the lollipop stick was shoved into on the horse?
Moving on.
The ring toss game was my favorite segment this episode. Reika wins the vendor, Nao wins a mask/Majorina thanks to ladybug interference, Akane almost wins, and Candy finally gives up and cheats in order to get herself back to Miyuki. Yayoi, however, wins a figure of Kamen Rider Some Guy. Success! I was hoping they'd make an Akanbe out of him, but they might be saving that for future episodes.
I think this episode marks the first time we've seen Reika's father on screen. He does exist, he's just never gotten screentime until now. The eyecatches have changed to Princess Form and a new set of Candy pictures. Cute. A fun episode, with, as I said before, the ring toss segment using some good character humor. The fireworks, as always, are very pretty.
Next week (which I might be late on commenting on) has everyone going to the countryside to see Miyuki's grandma. And then get trapped in a theme park. I may be confusing it with the Hayate movie.
