Yesterday they even released a trail version.
The Higurashi visual novel is very good with messing with it readers mind, it's one of the things that makes it so good.
But if your friend has already seen all of the Higurashi anime the mindfucks won't work on him anymore so a big part of its charm will go away.
PS Higurashi is my favorite visual novel.
