Nick did not want another long epic storyline like the first series, but instead wanted shorter epic stories and as such the creators are making each season to be self contained. Basically season 1 will be a complete story, with a start middle and end... which means you can be certain Amon looses.

besides, Amon claims to be on the side of the of the spirits as he claims he got his power from them.

I was sure it was wrong to begin with (as is many of my speculations), but I can't help but feel that having a second season will influence the end of the first season in some manner.
