That's not entirely true; it's quite possible to have lots of recessive genes that aren't terribly harmful, but will still weaken an organism. Likewise, the same is true of recessive genes that will strengthen an organism. Biologically speaking, the possible defects outweigh the possible gains, which is why incestuous behavior is selected against.

Enough biology stuff - I'd like to add mangaitis to the list of anime cliches. The one where two characters are fighting man-a-mano while a whole group of characters who support one of them stand around and just watch. The reasonable thing to do in most such situations is that they'd just gang up to beat the crap out of their enemy. Even the creators tend to know how artificial this seems, which goes a long way in explaining why one-on-one tournaments are so popular in certain genres.
