It's quite realistic, anyway.
Once you go to different school, especially if it's course-specific (say: engineering or medical), it's really hard to relate with them anymore. And that's not counting new friends you might have in the new place.
Doesn't say it's impossible, just that it would be hard to be as close as before. Ichika probably got it worst because to put it simply: all his new friends are girls, no exception. I can't blame him even a little for whining.
