While somebody from Mongol seems to be a very obvious choice, it might be possible that the author is throwing a curveball and Masatsugu might be Xiongnu, Turks, Huns, or Japanese.
By the way, drinking the blood of horses to ease logistics during the war is a well documented practice of Mongol army. The author really did his research on this one.
