For me at least a good mystery must have intrigue! Despite how in Monster we were showed who the villian was, there was still a great deal of intrigue since this story did take place right after the "wall" came down, plus a great many characters were introduced that kept you wandering how they were connected with Johan.
While its not requisit, a good mystery should keep the villian a mystery till the dectective finds him/her/them.
