The link inside is of course the direct link of the pic that you uploaded into some image-hosting service. I use imageshack since they have a plug-in for firefox and it also has a function where you can choose multiple images and generate forum code, such as the one above, for all at once. Then just copy and paste the code to your post.
For thumbnails, look for thumbnail code for forum. All most every image-hosting site has that option.
Or you can just quote people and see how they type their posts (see the quote button).
