of course, some certain line of quality is needed, otherwise, regardless of genre, bad writing is bad writing cough*IS*cough. But it's far harder for a works to be recognize as good by eveyoone compare to bad works recognize by everyone. But when you cross the a certain level, it's mostly depended on the taste of readers to decide what's is good and truly good. So i'd still say it's more depended on genre.

Theme here is refer to the atmosphere or the nature of the novel, for example, all Kagami's works ( Denyuuden, Itsuten,..) have different setting, but their atmosphere is the same, it's also applied for Nanasawa( SHinigamisoujo, this thread), and Kamachi ( HO, TAMNI,...)
