I doubt it is all ancient history considering the recent statue of comfort woman in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul.
But I guess it is true everywhere that young people cares more about fashion and trend than history, politics, etc.
But it is no exaggeration that the "Korean Wave" has taken over whole East Asia and South East Asia. Like Shinji-kun has remarked, in a way, the occasional backlash attests to their popularity.
