Consequently, I think Blackbeard thought the risks wasn't worth the gain so turned tail instead of trying to put down the Red Dog.

agreed .. Akainu has possibly the deadliest DF in terms of how much damage to the body (quite possibly fatal) you take from 1 (one) hit
