Actually this being set in the Edo period peaks my interest quite a bit. I just finished my first semester and I took a Japanese history class, the first thing we learned about was the Edo Period. Specifically the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu.

I have a feeling that Tokugawa Ieyasu will indeed be the "Lelouch" of this new series. He was the first Edo shogun. He also made way for the entire Tokugawa system which changed Japan greatly. Another historical figure whom I may thing you'll find interesting is Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who may very well be the "Suzaku" of this manga. Toyotomi was an ally of Tokugawa but was unable to become the shogun because he was not of samurai lineage.

See the similarities now? Tokugawa was royalty while Toyotomi was not. This is just the way I see things, it seems that my classes have indeed been worth my time and money.

Take this as just my opinion and nothing official. I'm just coming up with a theory here.
