Been awhile since I've seen the movie at the Ikebukuro theater but I think I remember them bringing their gig bags on the plane (or rather it was implied).
At least *that* you can do as I used to bring my own guitar gig bag on the plane. It will be too big for the compartments above but the stewardesses usually place it in a bigger compartment in the plane and hand me a numbered ticket so I can claim it back when I've arrived to my destination....
....I figured that's what they did. I may need to rewatch the movie though to remember exactly what they did.
