All in all you could argue that the most of the red in EP2-4 was just a distraction, a... '
red herring' ... I'm sorry, in terms of finding the culprit - then again originally it was created as a rule back when Battler only cared about the how-(a human could've)-dunnit so that was never the goal anyway.
It seemed to work quite well in distracting from the narrative and the hints contained therein (if not hints for Yasu, at least hints towards Shannon), considering Erika's existence.
