This is all product of Gitsune's curse, whose purpose is to lead the Nura blood to its absolute extintion.
-Nurarihyon married a human woman because that was his wish. Rhian was born, with half human blood and half yokai blood.
-Rhian married with his second wife because the curse made him impossible to have children with his first yokai wife.
-And for that reason Rikuo was born with only a 1/4 of yokai blood. If Rikuo were to marry a human girl, a child with a 1/8 of yokai blood would be born.
As Nayrael said, beating the curse would give Rikuo and the Nura clan a sense of victory.
