Now are you sure it's not one of those Sonic Blades they've been using up till now? They look quite similar except beams I would imagine could damage the Gundams while the Sonic Blade hasn't been able to do much of anything.

No, its defenitly a beam saber. There is no sonic blade visible, and its a red beam, so its probably belongs to one of the Thrones.
