Actually it kinda is a problem with the authors, 'cause 9 out of 10 times they don't really know what the fuck to do after 70 chapters but still try to keep the story going anyway. And so that's when you get the "mysterious ex boyfriends with magical aids" (one of the best lines I've ever heard, lol) and such.

If a plot twist makes you say "oh!" then the author did it right, but if it makes you say "whaaaaat?!" then he or she most likely failed.
