It's not something that happens in all romance genre stories, though. Magi: Labyrinth of Magic didn't do it, for example, and Trinity Seven also doesn't seem to be like that. And do you get the feeling that Rakudai will do it (because I doubt it)? DxD also won't do it.

as i said i get the various reasons, i've just seen it so many times that i'm sick of it
