Really nice retelling of Homura's past mixed with the present without so much as going into detail of her struggles to keep Madoka from contracting during timeline after timeline. Like episode 10, which was Homura based (Love that episode!
), it pretty much shows us that her and Madoka are somewhat similar/kindred spirits because they're both shy, weak, and insecure girls, wanting to find their place in their world. Their talk about indulging in books, games, and crafts are a perfect example of them needing to escape the pain and cruelties of the world, but it didn't stop them from experiencing first hand as time goes on.
It's obvious that Homura left hints about her strong admiration for Madoka because she was the reason why she contracted, and is the force that motivated her to change and do what she does. It's understandable why she'd be upset at Madoka putting herself down for her timid, shy, and per say her "talentless" nature despite knowing full well that Homura knows that her "talent" is far to dangerous if going through "sales tactic" means.
With a steady and relaxing mood going between them, it's a great chance for Homura to go on the offensive, with a defensive and slightly willing Madoka of course.
I consider Homura to be a mix of Senjougahara and Hanekawa rolled into one because she's really blunt, protective, and very knowledge about certain things, and has a quiet secretive demeanor.
I found it pretty cute how they both kind of had to go back and forth to "come of the closet" but oh well, it worked out in their favor. Oh my god, the kiss was so cute and adorable. It made me singing this:
Spoiler for Receptions About the Kiss:
Can I have this dance
Underneath the dark starry sky
your bright and happy peaceful smile
Makes me very warm and shy
You're beautiful, it warms my heart
Your kindness, makes me blissful
Can I hold your hand
I never want to leave your side
You're the one for me
My very sense of strength and pride
My feelings, are so true
I hope you know, I love you
I've been listening to
Fly Me to the Moon a while back and as I read this I just had to type this while it was fresh off the top of my head. I'm really happy for you Homura!
Back on topic. Ahem:
Anyway, with confessions, girl fun, and bold teasings out the way. Homura knows that she'll have to put a bit of the relationship on hold to counter Walpurgis Night when it comes. It's proof that Homura's new found love for her is definitely going to be her profound sense of strength in the upcoming battle. Madoka putting her complete faith in Homura, realizing that she has things to watch out for and things she needs to think of regarding her girlfriends Magical Girl duties, not contracting, and pacifying her relationship with Hitomi.
Really amazing pacing and "realism" when it comes to equally sharing some pain and insecurities the two girls obviously feel. I think you empathized Homura's willingness to overcome her boundaries in terms of protecting and becoming a new person for the person you love, and the willingness to break out of her shell. It's a neat turn on Homura's part considering that she generally plays the part of the cryptic, secretive, and distant ice princess. That's a great thing, and you made her into a normal young maiden in love, but with a wounded caring hearts. Excellent work on that that, you're always doing your Madoka homework as always.
