I know sfdebris well from his absolutely scathing Star Trek: Voyager reviews (which are truly hilarious reviews for anybody who's seen that show and thought it was pretty bad). And he's clearly not someone who absorbs a lot of recent anime. Taking that altogether, his overall assessment of Madoka Magica Episode 1 is pretty positive, and speaks well of the show.
The foreshadowing in Madoka Magica Episode 1 really is quite effective when even more mainstream audiences can quickly pick up on it, and see where the show is going. |
Chuck Sonnenberg is nothing but a fair cop. He might riff almost everything he does, but he has a pretty good sense on whether or not something he's reviewing is good, flawed, or absolutely atrocious.
