There's a weird love/hate with Touma's punches.
Many people are tired of them because they are repetative.
Many like the fact that a guy is in the moral right to punch a little girl in the face. They find it refreshing.
I think a female Touma character would be more popular, but not because a girl punching out a guy is interesting or novel, or anything like.
But simply because they'd much more enjoy a 15 year old girl fight than a 15 year old boy. They'd be too busy lusting after her 2D body to get bored by the fact that this is the 3rd Big Bad she'd punched out in a row.
