Very good point there! I guess the fundamental difference between Mayoi and others would be the fact Mayoi is alive at that point in time and will be dead soon while others will be alive. So the urgency to save Mayoi from the inevitable should outweigh all other problem await him in the eventual future that involved the living. With Mayoi, the window of opportunity in time is now or never.
