I would think having your brains being pushed out of your head would provide more than enough explosive pressure together with the shockwave from the entry of the bullet which would have traveled through the occula obit gel.

Also, being in an enclosed room when an explosion goes off provides the same red eye experience, with a bonus of partial lost of hearing and balance as well... stupid idiot forgot to check the backblast... and yes it does hurt... together with the light sensitivity for the next 2 weeks...
