I didn't like Fflay but her death left me with a mixed feeling. Part of me was cheering, mainly for the irony of the scene, while on the other hand I felt her death like a cheap way to dismiss a character who was no longer needed.

Well, flashbacks are the giant problem of SEED, but in Nicol and Tolle's case I think that a reason existed. It was probably the best way to show that Athrun (and Kira) kept thinking about it even after months. When they finally accepted the death of their friends and forgave themselves for what happened, the flashbacks are no longer shown.
