Whatever it was they calmed down (as noted by Raku himself) compared to when they were clawing Raku all over. Remember, the dog instantly bit her.
Maybe I'm overthinking this and the author didn't have this as a sign of them being polar opposites in mind at all but I thought it a nice touch.
