Anyway, the real reason h264 is not being adopted is simply because for those who can't tell the difference in quality
(sidenote: I can remember a time when I thought the quality of 175mb dvdrips was nigh on flawless), there are only reasons against using h264. The ONE advantage of h264 has been negated, and you end up with files that are essentially less useful than before.
It's been said time and time again: if you want more people to start liking and even
embracing h264, encode a 120mb version of your fansub and put it up on the tracker for download. The amount of extra effort to encode a second version at 640x480 500kbits plus a 96kbits AAC is minimal. The gains could be tremendous.
