Look plain and simple the writers for full metal alchemy didnt dream Alchemy up, It really did exist, look in a history book or something man should be around the Renaissance. Its pretty easy to understand that alot of the principles in full metal alchemist where not original, for instance the "Law of conservation" or whatever they called it the people must sacrifice something of equal value to gain something" thats just an adaptation of the "Law of Conservation of matter/energy - Matter/energy is niether destroyed or created it is conserved" - which means during a chemical reaction like creating water all that happens is all the atomic mass of the two atoms are just put together the weight of the Hydrogen and the weight of the Oxygen. Its quite a simple rule actually and it also applies to energy all energy is stored in a chemical reaction , for example food, when you eat somthing the energy that is stored in that food is just transfered from the food to your body its teh energy your body gets from breaking the bonds between the atoms.
(Forgive the bad explanations if you dont get it, i havent taken chemistry in a reallll long time)
