I mean, might want to save the cutesy stuff until after you give the audience a reason not to think these girls are scum. Dropping a couple vague hints about their parents influencing them isn't nearly enough

Indeed. Which is why enjoyed this anime like I enjoyed Battlefield Earth and Plan 9 from Outer Space. I wish I had friends into anime just so we could MST3K it.
