According to Novel 2, where she's introduced, Ami Kawashima's a teen model, as the manga notes, which means she needs to look drop-dead gorgeous or at least pretty enough to turn heads. Of course, Kitagawa, her childhood friend, knows what lies beneath that mask. Taiga and Ryuji will learn about it soon enough.

On another note, besides Minori being horribly cute, anyone else fascinated by some of the depths she displays later?

No wonder she and Taiga get along, with that nasty streak she hides. But at the same time, it makes her much more fascinating since she's not JUST a good girl... and learning to deal with Taiga would give him experience he'd need for Minori, should he ever GET her. Which, of course... may not happen, the way things are going.
