One theory I heard some time ago is that in Japan many female phantasize about a male-less society (which makes sense since even nowadays they are second rate citizens) and in a sense futanari just achieves that since futanari invariably are portrayed as
girls (look at the hips if in doubt) with a penis and not as men with breasts.
