There is no middle ground. I either have top end gear to survive against Inferno elites so I can farm them, or I can't so I go to Hell and Nightmare for gold farming. The fact that I lose 3000 gold when killed means this is the only way to go.

I had the same problem when i first started inferno. What class are you? As a barb, what i did was go to the auction house and spend 50~200k on each piece of armour, as long as it had 70~80 all resistance and some vitality as well. Those were the only 2 stats i looked out for, and in the end all the damage i had only came from my weapon (which incidentally wasn't very good). My survivability skyrocketed, even though it took an age to kill all mobs.
