Very nice poem, zetsubousensei! I used to try fidgeting with poems but they never turned out better than slop, so I gave up. I write prose instead, which I find much easier. ^.^
I like the idea of this thread. You can find a few fanfiction threads in some of the fandom forums, but there are hardly any posts for general writing even in the Creative Section.
And err, well, I don't have a lot of material to offer that'll be a suitable length (not to mention quality)...so I wonder if posting a snippet of a short-story would be acceptable?
Title is "Saigo no Kiss" (English: "A Last Kiss"). I wrote it for the Pan-Asian Animax Awards last year, but it didn't get very far at all. If anyone's interested, toxic trance (a fellow member of our MASK team) did a few illustrations, which you can find in
this thread <-- (should be under the section of "Our Manga")
So, after rambling on, here's a quick story outline:
...and then finally, the little snippet:
Spoiler for "Saigo no Kiss" snippet:
Something was wrong. Horribly wrong.
Kaede pushed the rice of the curry to and fro on her plate, her eyes staring unseeingly at an invisible smudge on the plastic table. It was two weeks since Shinohara had caught her in front of the classroom. Nothing had happened since then, but just remembering it made her feel uncomfortable.
Quiet by nature, Kaede was a student who had never stood out in the crowd. Her grades and abilities were average and she never caused much problem for the teachers – except, of course, her daily lateness of four minutes. But even that had become a habit for her teachers as well, and after a quarter of a semester, they wouldn’t even look up from the registry when she came in.
Kaede was a part of the background, always there, but never the focus of the picture. There were others who took that role, obnoxious though some of them were. There was the boy who was always just talk, having to always inform the entire class of what he would study and how hard he would try, but hardly ever did. Then there were always the group of students who tried to cover their lack of academic intelligence with beauty or ‘coolness’. Those girls would constantly whisper through the lessons and giggle at petty gossip, as if that was the Cool behaviour. Those boys would saunter around swinging their shoulders like a wolf patrolling its territory. There were plenty of other types of students, like the ones who asked a question or threw in an assumption every two sentences or the pranksters or even the simply hard working group of students.
But Kaede was none of these. She just went along with everything without complaint or enthusiasm. To the teachers, she was the quiet, diligent girl who would only speak when asked to directly. She wasn’t ignored by them, but because she wasn’t a pain in the neck, the teachers tended to just overlook her. And so, she melted into the background, and she it suited her just fine.
But Shinohara had noticed her; had looked at her – really looked at her.
Kaede mentally kicked herself. She was thinking way too much about this. It was just a teacher in school. It wasn’t important in her life. At the moment, she needed to think more about Tsubaki and the future when the time came. She was working herself up just because her homeroom teacher had asked why she came late to class. She was over-exaggerating by far.
