I would have preferred anything really -- long as she didn't come out as a karma houdini I'd be fine with it.
Her dying wouldn't have made anything right. The best ending I could think of that was as excessively cruel as her would be.... Her ending up the same place she started at - albeit unable to escape this time with higher technological securing ensuring she'd remain prisoned.
