From my perspective, I found similarities from the original series* with the love triangle and then now similarities with Zero, I won't mention plus or seven since that was sorta different.

Ranka reminds me a lot of Mao Nome, especially hugging onto Alto and looking towards his advice much like Mao as intrigued by Shin Kudo's knowledge and experience which often led to her being rebellious of her sister Sara and the traditions of the islands.

So the love triangle reminds me more so of the Shin, Mao, and Sara one from Zero more fleshed out, to me anyways at this point.
