The manga strongly suggests that Hideki and Chi'i cannot consummate their relationship physically because of the location of her "reset button." Having sex would mean Chi'i would reset and forget all about Hideki.

I thought it was rather a perverted ending myself and wondered what was in the minds of the CLAMP authors when they wrote it. I suppose one view might be that Chi'i and Hideki's relationship is a "true" love unsullied by lust. I just thought it was implausible to imagine that someone Hideki's age would accept this as his future no matter how in love he is with Chi'i at the moment. It's rather obvious they can't have children together, but ruling out sex forever seemed, well, wrong.

It's also rather absurd to build an anatomically correct android then locate the reset button there unless you have an especially perverse sense of humor. I didn't really see Chitose-san, the landlady scientist, as that sort of person. We don't see the Icchan of Chobits. In his appearance in Angelic Layer (anime) he's a bit on the ecchi side, but fundamentally good-hearted as well.

I haven't seen either of these shows for at least a year or two now, so I'm going on memory for most of this.

I watched the anime a few years ago and I didn't really think of it that far.
Thus I really liked the ending...

But now that I realize the manga ending, or the "full" ending; now I'm not too sure. I think they "crappied" the ending in a way because; really, it's information that people would rather not know...
Maybe that's why the anime took that part out perhaps.
