Basically the MC went around the area with some comical moments, then met up with his old support character (wolf king?) who's about to die because he's over > 500 years and aged. As per his request, MC duels with him and the support character goes out in a bang (he dies.). The narrative itself is okay, but after 3 volumes I find the plot moving at a snail's pace and I lost interest in it.

Anyone read past the beast volume? Does the pace gets faster?

I think the pace is alright like that, and those "comical moments" are actually cornerstones for future plot. Not sure what you want to see for it to became "faster" though since everyone's idea for this may be different. My guess is you want more DBZ like fight scenes and my answer to that would be halfway yes; there are more battle after your spoiler but it doesn't take away the "comical moments".
