I haven't seen Hyouka, but anyway, I'm not saying KyoAni is incapable of that sort of thing, just that... well, look at the promo materials.
I'm sure they'll try for some story, and we'll have an emphasis on character interaction, but I wouldn't hope for anything intellectually stimulating. (Of course I wouldn't mind ending up being wrong, but...)
Overall I have no problem with this being a shallow eyecandy, as long as it's entertaining shallow eyecandy. I just wish they'd gotten someone else instead of Miyano.
