Week Thirteen
Another week goes by with a major gap in tone between the two series. Only now, it's iM@S that's upping the tension and Xenoglossia takes on a more relaxing pace. Haruka continues to be a beacon of positive reinforcement in either show. And in terms of both episodes, the distance between Azusa and the rest of the group. In Xenoglossia, it's because of her position, where she sometimes has to make tough decisions, being near the top of ladder. In iM@S, it's a more physical distance, because of rain.
While Miki leaving for another production company never happened in iM@S, Makoto could be said to be behaving like Miki in Xenoglossia. She's told she can no longer be part of a group she aspires to participate, and defects. Defection means a lot more when giant robots are on the line. So even if Miki lacks a direct Xenoglossia counterpart, her character arc doesn't.
