In italy Andrea is used usually as a male name, with the "internationalization" the name is used as female name too but usually is a manly name, as wikipedia says: "The word is derived from the Greek: Ανδρέας, Andreas, itself related to Ancient Greek: ἀνήρ/ἀνδρός aner/andros, "man" (as opposed to "woman"), thus meaning "manly" and, as consequence, "strong", "courageous", and "warrior"."
