"Hotchkiss" is a brand name of a stapler. .... just as "aspirin" used to be a brand name and slipped into generic usage for any acetylsalicylic acid product , the Japanese often just say "Hotchkiss" for stapler devices. There are a number of products sold in Japan that are notable that way simply because they were the first into the country.
In the US, 'xerox', 'kleenex', and 'coke' are other examples where that has happened.
