It was not fault of the original game's story. The director of the TV series said in a interview he HATES tsunderes. You can't never expect a good thing when the own director dislikes what he's doing. Besides, they used an ugly character design, nothing like the original.
The original creator of the game probably learned his lesson, because his next game to be turned into an anime -
