Proven to work...but not well.
Having a patron fund art is extremely limiting. This is due to the fact that it requires a patron
wealthy enough to fund what is needed for creation of art/innovation,
caring enough about what is produced to fund it, and
accessible enough by the creator to have the patron fund the project. Each one of these is a large limitation on what the creator can produce.
