Kanami is a "counter-puncher", and she has shown enough wisdom to not fight battles she cannot win. This is very different from the typical protagonist who charges headstrong into battle. Also, as vietthai96 has said, Suzuka is also specializes in countering, so what Suzuka did in the entire match is inconsistent to her swordsmanship style and so she cannot do anything if she was forced to be offensive.
If Kanami is a Mary Sue, then both Ikki Kurogane (Rakudai Kishi) and Glenn Radars (Akashic Records) are Mary Sues. But they are not Mary Sues. They are better called as counterplay strategists. Whatever brute strength the enemy holds can be taken down by enough strength and tons of cunning.
