I agree the pacing is a little too slow. Given the current pace I can see where the anime will end...

Babu is pretty adorable this episode though.

I think the Ranko scene is just extra fan service as I don't recall her getting a message+licked in the manga. iirc Furuya did not figure out that wanted to eat him until a while later.
