I just finished watching the entire anime series (yes, I thought from the average scores it was worth waiting for the reanimated blu-ray)
And after seeing everyone's weekly impressions, it seems like this is one of those horror series which would have been MUCH better if it was just one entire movie or marathon'ed.
Especially since for me,
Spoiler:
Takako's apparent insanity followed with all the others going batshit insane made sense, if you think about how Kubodera-sensei died (who would NOT be traumatized after watching someone die at the age of 15?!). Plus, Takako's added push was the death of Nakao, which (upon watching) is pretty darn gruesome. Add onto that Izumi's stress from the guilt she feels for not explaining sooner (she mentions this in passing almost every episode she's present in), its pretty understandable how someone could snap, if you include the fact that now many of the students think that going outside Yomiyama doesn't make you safe anymore (thanks Nakao!).
Then there's Mei, who a lot of people seem to be blaming for not saying something sooner... But upon hindsight, who would believe this "creepy" girl if she were to say, 'I know who the extra since I can see dead people'? Plus, since they were all supposed to ignore her from April onward, it makes perfect sense that no one would realize the curse was present, especially since Mei herself wasn't 100% sure her sister's death was related to the curse.
Yeah, this makes me excited for the live action - can only hope the director is better than the one for the anime
. Overall though, marathon-ing the entire series was not a bad call, and general impression would give this series like an 8 or a 9 out of 10, especially compared to how badly a horror series/movie can go (I've seen A LOT of those as a general horror fan, haha).
