Kanji (漢字） are Chinese characters used in Japanese. The other 2 writing system are 平仮名(hiragana) and 片仮名(katakana). Romanji （ロマン字）is the Japanese written in English letters. But I rather read KANJI any DAY than reading romanji because romanji is confusing and it's not very accurate, which makes difficult for romanji translators.
