It's speculated that it'll end sadly for ShirouXRin, as while it's not mentioned directly, but it's heavily hinted that in the future, Rin became one of Shirou's close companions prior to becoming a Heroic Spirit, and she was among Shirou's comrades whom lost their lives fighting for Shirou's ideals.
