In vol 5 (or so) we find out that the incident which took away the first girl's life was caused by somebody who wanted to put Glen to the test. Whether he was a true hero or something iirc. In that volume that antagonist thought of Sistine as just somebody who looks like the first love but later he revises his opinion to that it was an exact reenactment of the previous incident that she was not merely a look-alike.
