I think the GOP welcome it. Because they probably understand economics more than Trump and furthermore, they can use the trade deficit excuse to cut social safety net programs.
Which they have already started doing.
really, trade deficit isn't necessarily a bad sign. Especially when you're dealing with a country whose economic growth is faster than you.
