He actually didn't get branded he decided to inherit the title. Have you read ichiban? Its something similar. Basically a person who inherits the demon lord title isn't necessarily a demon lord. Instead its a person who very strong, yet decides to defy the system. Have you seen the recent episode of Hagure? I think it'll show him become demon lord. Basically whats happening is the humans are deciding to wipe off all the demons off the face of the world because their afraid of them. At the same time their also afraid of Akatsuki because hes strong (Yet his dad is stronger than he is). After he takes the title of maou he says anyone who tries to attack the demons he'll retaliate. Basically by taking the title he scares the shitty geezer and that douche of a general from attacking the demons so they can live peaceful. Also this protects miyu. Instead of going after her they'll have to take care of the demon lord first.
